But since everyone knows exactly who killed Annie Talbot, it should be an easy case for the detective to solve.

This short story has a noir feel, reminiscent of gritty, hardboiled detective tales. The unfolding story moves along at a brisk pace with the focus on the detective’s efforts to close the case.

Since the story takes place on another planet, some sort of world-building would have enhanced the telling of the tale. The mystery surrounding the murder is intriguing; sadly, the unnecessary overuse of a particularly offensive word mars the story and lowers the rating for this book.… (mer)
