Well, I would've cut 50 pages or so out of the middle of this, but it was fun.

Ledger is a freshly 13-year-old boy who has a destructive savvy--so destructive he has to live in the middle of nowhere to protect himself and those around him. He meets a girl, and he tries to deal with his issues (Can he scumble his savvy? Will he give up his old dreams for new ones?). Family mysteries are solved, obstacles are overcome, and the reader is left satisfied, if winded from the long journey to the finish line.

This can stand alone without Savvy, but I don't know if it's good enough to garner its own fans.

A nearly perfect book for an 11- to 14-year old girl. A little romance, a little adventure, a lot of finding yourself stuff. Set in the real world, but driven by the mysterious and magical abilities of the main characters. Truthfully, I thought it was a little cheesy, but sure as sure as sure, most young readers won't mind.

The audiobook reader wasn't my favorite. I loved the voice she used for Lester (with his stutter and his lack of confidence), but most of the other characters either sounded generic or annoying.… (mer)

Another sweet and fun addition to the Savvy series. This one takes place 10 years after the first and is about Mibs's younger sister Gypsy. The story starts when the Beaumont family finds out that their non believer grandma with Alzheimer's must come to live with them. In addition somehow all their savvys get switched for basically the opposite of what they had before. There is a lot here about learning your own true nature and a good message about learning to see your elders as whole people outside of their role as your parent or grandparent. A really sweet story, with stellar characterization for both Gypsy and all the secondary characters. Good sense of place, lovely descriptions and fun scenes involving the new savvys. If you've read the other two books you'll love this one. If you haven't read Savvy and Scumble yet, you need to get right on that.… (mer)

This is a wonderful story of a young girl who learns you don't always get what you want but that you can make do with what you do get if you're resourceful. Whimsical and charming. This is the sort of children's book that even though there is a lesson running through it, the lesson is buried so deeply within the enchanting story that you don't feel knocked over the head with it. Both boys and girls will love this story and what's more will want a savvy of their own. I know I do.
