My Thoughts: I absolutely love fantasy! I figured this out while reading Harry Potter, but even people who don’t like fantasy like HP. Finding books that remind you how much you love to read is definitely worth reading some bad ones. Path of Darkness is a continuation of The Seeker’s Burden series and you can brush up on our review of An Emerging Threat (book 1).

Path of Darkness picks up right where An Emerging Threat left off. There’s even a very nice little recap at the beginning, which was extremely helpful. The intricacy and detail of this brand new world still blows my mind. I loved being completely immersed in someone else’s imagination. Path of Darkness sucks you right back into Prince Ethan’s struggles, Oliver’s challenges and everyone else’s problems and victories.

The pace of Path of Darkness is great. It never feels rushed and what could be considered the “slow parts”, really aren’t slow. I was never bored while reading Path of Darkness and I love the slow build of learning more about each of the characters. The way you learn more about the characters seems almost natural, instead of the normal “character introduction,” which tends to be a bit boring. In Path of Darkness, it’s almost like when you meet someone in real life and learn more and more about them as time goes on, but you still feel like you know them without knowing their deepest, darkest secrets.

There were a few minor spelling and grammatical errors, but nothing that hindered my reading and they definitely won’t cause any confusion. I also wish each book was a little longer, but I suppose that’s not really a criticism. It’s not like the author is leaving parts of the story out to cut it down. I just want more because I’m a greedy, little bibliophile.

In case you hadn’t already guessed my verdict on Path of Darkness, I’ll spell it out for you. I would definitely recommend Path of Darkness, especially if you love fantasy with a quest, like Lord of the Rings. This series is incredible and just keeps getting better. I can’t wait for the third book to come out!
