This book may be a bit dense for bedtime reading, but I used it quite a lot for my BA and from an academic point of view it's fascinating. It deals with all aspects of the commissioning process in the Renaissance, using examples mainly from Tuscany, but also particularly pertinent examples from elsewhere. Recommended for Renaissance art historians, or in fact for anyone who wants to investigate how Renaissance artists and patrons actually negotiated, made contracts and resolved problems.
