Ted Shearer was an illustrator who sold his first cartoon to The Amsterdam News at the age of 16. illustrated for Stars and Stripes while in the Army in World War II, and later created the comic strip "Quincy", which was syndicated for 16 years. He also worked freelance as an illustrator, as an art director for the ad agency BBDO, and co-created the Billy Jo Jive series of children's books with his son, the photographer John Shearer.
