Running the Mad Hatter's Cupcakery and Tea Shoppe is a delicious job, until fate--and a fairy godmother with a weakness for bad boys--throws her a curveball. Now, Alice is the newest resident of Wonderland, where the Mad Hatter fuels her fantasies and thrills her body with his dark touch. The Mad Hatter may have a voice and a body made for sex, but he takes no lovers. Ever. But a determined fairy godmother has forced Alice into Wonderland--and his arms. I downloaded this book on my Kindle for free, or I wouldn't have read it at all -- but I'm glad I did. In some ways it's a very simple story: fairy godmother throws girl into boy's arms, boy and girl both resent it, boy and girl have troubles, boy and girl end up together -- but there are a couple of unique curves thrown in that made this more interesting than I expected.

The author does a good job of presenting a Wonderland that both resonates with what we know from the book, the Disney film, and the Johnny Depp Mad Hatter (which gets a nod or two in the story), but with its own special attributes.

On the plus side, Alice has good reason to be in love with a "fantasy character" -- which gives her more reason to be persistent in the face of Hatter's madness and pain. I wanted to grade this down for setting up an all-too-typical story of good girl putting up with bad boy's bad behavior until he turns good, but this Alice really doesn't do that.

I also like that this Alice is not a white-skinned blonde. There are too few non-European heroines in fantasy.

The story is more of a novella than a full-length novel, but that's a good thing. The author wisely does not draw out the story farther than it can bear.

All-in-all, it was a pleasant, creative read, and I'll probably sample the others in the Bad Boys series. ( )

This was so beautiful, so romantic and at times so sad. It's been a long time since I have cared for literary characters so much. Gorgeous read. ( )

Fairy Godmother extraordinaire has taken on the task of finding true love for a group of fairy tale bad boys and first up is...The Mad Hatter. It hasn't been easy for the Mad Hatter, having met Alice, after Alice, after Alice, and the ensuing disappointment, he is sick of it. When his Godmother begs him to just meet one more, he just has no heart left to do it. However, his beloved Wonderland is suffering along with his encroaching madness and this Alice might just be The One.

I really enjoyed this short paranormal romance and have read it a couple times. It is certainly an interesting and novel idea for a story and was pretty well executed for what it is. I haven't yet tried out her other "bad boys" fairy tale re-tellings, but will probably get around to it eventually. This one stands well on its own and if you're one of those who felt that certain spark between Alice and the Hatter in the latest movie take on Alice in Wonderland, you may want to check this out. This was an interesting story. I love the idea and parts of the story I really enjoyed but I really wanted just a little bit more. I think it came into it's own by the ending but overall the story was just so-so. It was fun and I would like to read some of the other stories in the series to see if one of the full-fledged novels is a little more fleshed out and has what Her Mad Hatter was lacking. ( )

When I heard that this was an Alice in Wonderland retelling, I was ecstatic. The cover made it seem as if the story wasn't that interesting, but oh hell it was.
The story was a very unique retelling that used other concepts than the one in the original.
I loved the characters, especially Danika.

Who doesn't love a fairy godmother like that?

Mad Hatter was very melancholy before he met Alice and his character was beautiful. The fact that the entire world was made from Mad Hatter's brain didn't hurt either. Alice seemed a bit stalker-like because of the fact that she was in love with a book character ever since she was 13. Although, that started to make sense in the end.

Hell, even the supporting characters were beautiful. The rest of the 'bad-boys' that Danika was responsible for, were very charismatic and complex. I did hate Galeta the Blue though. She was the secondary antagonist since the main antagonist was Hatter himself. The characters were very likable and complex. The author definitely put work into the creation of them.

Also, the Hatter seemed more 'wild' in this retelling. The differences in him in the original story and this one were astonishing.
The book could have been less erotic. Every time Hatter and Alice interacted, she would either get really aroused or the scene would end in explosive sex. I think this would be the only thing I didn't like in the entire book. ( )
