The writing was good, and the "twist", while expected, was good, too. I would compare this to a campfire story that you've heard many times, but still jump when the monster arrives. ( ) This is probably my second favorite story from Evans Light. I really dig the premise, and would love to see it expanded upon, maybe even as far as novel length. It reminded me of the what-ifs posed in Preston and Child's RELIQUARY, a book I had big fun with. My only complaint is a typical one when it comes to really good short stories: I wish it were longer. Other than that, THE MOLE PEOPLE BENEATH THE CITY is well-written, flawlessly edited, and brimming with creepy ideas. The "countdown" kinda shows the author's hand too soon, but there's nothing really wrong with that. You're still left with a decent amount of dread concerning the fates of those who are taken. In summation: A creepy little piece of fiction based on the urban legends surrounding the miles of unused and forgotten subway track beneath New York City. Recommended if you need to kill fifteen or twenty minutes. 4.5 *Book source ~ Picked up for free on Amazon. Urban legend says that the mole people live underneath New York City. They come up to the surface through the subways late at night waiting for the right moment to snatch people for their underground society. But it’s just a legend. Or is it? Well, I’ve never been on a subway before, but I’m not sure I want to ride one now. I guess I’d be ok during the day. If I need to ride one at night, I’ll just be sure to do it in the early evening. At the very least I would avoid the last car. On second thought, I think I’ll just take a cab. Or maybe avoid New York altogether. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
