Cold Light of Day
4 Stars

The daughter of a notorious Russian spy, Scarlett Stone is determined to prove her father's innocence. To that end, she infiltrates the Russian embassy to plant a listening device in the ambassador's office unwittingly interfering with an FBI investigation. Targeted by both the Russians and the FBI, Scarlett finds herself relying on former Navy SEAL and current FBI profiler Matt Lazlo to keep her safe. But as the net tightens, Scarlett and Matt suspect a traitor in their midst.

An exciting suspense plot and an enjoyable romance even though the heroine is somewhat TSTL.

The Russian traitor angle is compelling and called to mind the case of Robert Hanssen with a twist, i.e., Scarlett's father is innocent. Although the Russians are the obvious villains, and their actions are disgusting, the primary mystery revolves around the identity of the FBI mole. This element is well-written and keeps the reader guessing.

One troubling aspect, however, is the unnecessary inclusion of the faked rape scene, which adds nothing to either plot or characterization as the victim is unconscious and the photos taken by the rapist are never mentioned again in the book.

In terms of the romance, Matt and Scarlett have great chemistry, especially during their initial interactions. Their reactions to one another after Scarlett's true identity is revealed are realistic and believable. The inlcusion of cameo roles by Alex Parker and Mallory Rooney from book #1 is an added bonus.

Overall, a good addition to the series. ( )

3 Stars

Dull & Boring
I didn't find any typos etc. in my copy. I read some reviews from 2016 that said they were in their copy. So, either I missed them or the author updated the book and they no longer exist in the eBooks.

One of my reasons for giving this 3 stars is the mc's. Both Scarlett and Matt were boring. I didn't hate them or anything like that. There were a couple of redeeming qualities to both of them, but mostly they were tedious and tiresome. Scarlett mostly apologized and cried. Matt was so deep in denial and uptight I wanted to smack him.

My next problem is it seemed like everyone but Scarlett & Matt were doing something. They mostly just ran around hiding. So much so I was reminded of the old children's song
'Where is Thumbkin?'.

The excessively repetitive thoughts and actions of both Scarlett & Matt drove me nuts.
The plot was good. At points the suspense and mystery were well written. But every time it started to get interesting it would quickly descend back to dull and boring.

As far as the romance, there really isn't much there. It, like the main characters, had very little intensity or passion. There is just enough of one scene to make this 'Adult', but barely.

I'm unsure if I will continue this series. I want intensity, suspense and passion in my books. I want them to demand my attention.

The first 2 books got me caught up in this series. This one poisoned it & I don't know if there is a vaccine.

Cold Justice Book #3

“Cold Light of Day” is foremost an action/drama with a side of romance between scenes, one that captured my interest the moment I opened the first page. Each book features new characters as well as some from the previous books. Although book # 3 could be read on its own it wouldn’t be a bad idea to read the 2 previous ones.

What happens when the daughter tries to gain access to the Russian embassy to plant a bug in the ambassador’s office and her scheme fails? What happens when an FBI agent falls for the daughter of the most notorious spy in US history? Answer: We have one of those riveting romantic story hard to put down. This drama has all the right although light elements to keep things interesting and lively. Smoothly written this is a story easy to follow even with the cat and mouse game being played out. A daughter trying to prove her father is wrongly imprisoned, a man labelled a spy, and the path she takes to find the true spies. What’s not to be captivated with when a handsome FBI Agent ex-Navy Seal jumps in the fray. Awe!!! We have just the right mix of sexy banter, romance and most of all suspense. The characters are good: Scarlett is a spunky heroine and Matt a striking man in uniform. We have a lot of great dialogue through the entire story and a nicely written sex scene....

I will steal a line from a reviewer (Diane) “Never cross a Russian” if you do you will make a hell of a good story.....

“Cold Light of Day” is a must read and earns a 5 star from me. ( )

DESCRIPTION, NOT REVIEW:
Physicist Scarlett Stone is the daughter of the man considered to be the most notorious Russian agent in FBI history. With her father dying in prison she’s determined to prove he’s innocent, but time is running out. Using a false identity, she gains access to the Russian ambassador’s Christmas party, searching for evidence of a set-up.

Former Navy SEAL, now FBI Special Agent, Matt Lazlo, is instantly attracted to Scarlett but life is too complicated to pursue a politician’s daughter. When he discovers she lied to him about her identity, he hunts her down with the ruthless efficiency he usually reserves for serial killers.

Not only does Scarlett’s scheme fail, it puts her in the sights of powerful people who reward unwanted curiosity with brutality. The FBI—and Matt—aren’t thrilled with her, either. But as agents involved in her father’s investigation start dying, and the attempts to stop Scarlett intensify, Matt and his colleagues begin to wonder. Could they have a traitor in their midst?

As Scarlett and Matt dig for the truth they begin to fall passionately for one another. But the real spy isn’t about to let anyone uncover their secrets, and resolves to remain firmly in the shadows—and for that to happen, Matt and Scarlett have to die. ( )
