This is the companion book to Monstrous. Technically you don't need to read Monstrous first, but there are some things that will make more sense if you do. The story begins with Greta sort of recounting the events in Monstrous. You get bits and pieces as the story unfolds which made me feel like there was always a cloud hanging over the plot. There's a ravenous monster that lives in the ocean by a neighboring village and the evil king stole girls from Greta's village to feed the monster in the previous book. That backstory is continually a part of this book.
In Ravenous, Greta's brother, Hans, has been stolen by a witch and taken hostage. When Greta finds him, the witch agrees to release Greta if she will find a magical cornucopia. Greta will do anything to save her brother and sets off to Belladoma to find it. Throughout her search for the cornucopia, she learns that the greedy king Ensel stole it from the sea monster, which is what caused all the chaos in the first book. With the help of a centaur she met in the woods, Greta sneaks into the town through secret tunnels, steals a map that indicates potential hiding places, and uses magic potions to help her avoid being caught. She eventually finds it at the 3rd place she looks and it almost gets stolen by the evil mercenaries who are also looking for it. She elicits the help of her own king to destroy the witch so she can instead return the cornucopia to the monster. The end. Happy ever after.
