Figuring out who murdered Kari was a big job because she had been writing a series of pieces exposing corruption of politicians and businessmen. So she had a long list of people wanting to get rid of her. I liked the way this story unfolded so much that I just didn't want to stop reading. The characters were well developed and not run of the mill type people. Kristen was an expert in reading body language and had a PHD in psychology. She'd come a long way from her childhood with a drug addict, whore for a mother then in foster care. Slade was a very good detective with nothing to hide. Being part Native American we got a look at that culture. I was glad to see that there wasn't much paranormal activity in this story since that's not really my thing. It comes into the plot during the last quarter, flowing nicely with the story. The only thing I had a problem with in this book was that I don't like cliffhangers and this left many things unfinished. Please note that I received a complementary copy from the author but I'm reviewing it on my own as I do with everything I read. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
Kari Ransom's career as a journalist is on a stellar trajectory. She's making a name for herself by exposing some heavy hitters in the political arena for serious crimes and shady dealings. But that rise to the top is cut short when she's gruesomely murdered by a professional killer, who leaves very few clues behind for the authorities to follow. Her sister Kristen knows there is something more going on under the surface, and to find the culprits, she enlists the help of homicide detective Slade Jericho. Kristen senses there is more to Slade than he is letting on. Slade has seen his share of murders in his years on the Phoenix police force. And his gut's telling him that Kristen is in serious danger from the same heartless killers who executed Kari. He calls in the best to help him keep Kristen alive, and when Chase McKinnon, from the extraordinary McKinnon clan, steps in to lead the security detail, things start to get really dicey. Will Chase's past work for or against them as that past leads them straight into the vampire collective? Will Slade and Kristen find the killers before they are both murdered for the information now in her possession? If they can unravel this twisted web of lies, love, and deception, they will be free to give in to fate and see how perfect they are for each other even against the odds. This paranormal romance will keep you on the edge of your seat, rooting for the good guys and wondering what's going to happen next. Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |

This was well written. Deep independent characters. Intriguing plot line. And a very intelligent female lead, Kristen, that didn't back down. She kept pushing forward no matter what was put in her path. I love the depth of the intrigue. I loved that there was something more around the corner. I loved that I wanted more by the end. Kristen worked well with Slade the detective and he felt there was more there than they were seeing. He had enough knowledge to know that he needed help and this was nothing to tackle alone. In comes Chase.
I don't want to give things away but with the introduction of the three characters in the blurb I was almost expecting certain things to happen. I was very happy with what I did get. I love contemporary feel with a hint of paranormal through in. This was a read that wrapped around you and pulled you on the journey.
The intrigue and the plot thickened as the end drew near. ( )
