I have quibbles with some of the plot, and I'm hoping that there will be an explanation of sorts for the "mutation," but aside from that, and that the "rare" enhanced turn up regularly, I found the story compelling enough that I read it in two days. If you enjoy humans with powers stories and smart people screwing up around feelings, you'll probably enjoy this, too. #2 is also Talon and Finn, just FYI. ( ) The enhanced are humans who have developed special abilities that lead the masses to distrust, fear, and even oppress them. So when Talon becomes one, he is certain his goals to accomplish something meaningful with his life are out the window. Until he is given an opportunity to join the FBI, but in doing so he has to partner with a human who is the most unlikely partner he would choose--well, if he had any choice. Finn isn't exactly excited about the partnership, either, but they both have more on the line than either is willing to admit. And what they end up learning by being willing to rely on each other, even just a little bit, has a profound significance for them both. This book turned out to be a disappointment. I liked the whole idea of this story and that's what kept me going. But I gotta ask, where the hell was the editor? Especially in the first half of the book. The dialogue was weird sometimes, it felt like the two people were talking about two different topics. The sentences were sometimes disconnected. And generally there was something about the writing that rubbed me the wrong way. I liked Finn, and I liked the team. Their interactions were sweet and teasing. The romance between Finn and Talon came out of the blue. Yes, they acknowledged how hot they found each other, and there was a sudden kiss, without any lead-up. Same with the sex, it was fast and considering Finn's virgin status, I didn't like it. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension

Talon Valdez knew when he transformed into an enhanced human, his life and his dreams were finished. Reviled, mistrusted, and often locked away, the enhanced are viewed as monsters, despised by the public, and never trusted to serve in the military or any law enforcement agency. Years later he gets a chance to set up a task force of enhanced to serve in the FBI, but with one proviso: each enhanced must partner with a regular human. Finn Mayer dreamed of joining the FBI from the time he was fourteen and made every possible sacrifice to make it happen, including living with his selfish mother and bullying, homophobic brother and never having a boyfriend. But his undiagnosed dyslexia stopped his aspirations dead in their tracks. His last chance is to partner with Talon, an enhanced with deadly abilities who doesn't trust regular humans with their secrets and wants Finn to fail. Four weeks to prove himself to the team. Four weeks for the team to prove itself to the public. And when another group threatens their success--and their lives--four weeks for them to survive. Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |
