"When wilderness guide, Harper Ward, is summoned to the small town sheriff's office in Helena Springs, Montana, to provide assistance of a case, she is shocked to find that their only suspect in the double murder investigation is a man described as a savage. But the longer she watches the man known only as Lucas, on the station surveillance camera, the more intrigued she becomes. He certainly looks primitive with his unkempt appearance and animal skin attire, but she also sees intelligence in his eyes, sensitivity in his expression. Who is he? And how is it possible that he's lived alone in the forest since he was a small child. As secrets begin to emerge, Harper is thrust into something bigger and more diabolical than she ever could have imagined. And standing right at the center of it all, is Lucas. But is he truly the wild man he appears to be? A cold blooded killer? An innocent victim? Or a perplexing mix of all three? Harper must find out the answers to these questions because the more time she spends with him, the more she risks losing her heart."--back cover.… (mer)

Thanks to Bree from In Love & Words for recommending this book.

Lucas also known as Jak has lived alone in the wilderness ever since being thrown over a cliff along with three other boys. For a long time, Jak doesn't know what happened to those other boys, but he does eventually learn to survive on his own and sometimes trade with Issac Driscoll who allows Jak to live on his land. When Issac is murdered along with another local woman, Agent Mark Gallagher quickly dismisses Jak as a suspect and hires nature guide, Harper Ward to help him explore the area around Driscoll's house, looking for clues. Harper has her own issues including reconciling the loss of her parents when she was young, but when she meets Jak, their connection is immediate and she finds that she and Jak have more in common than either could have imagined.

Savaged is a good story with interesting, fleshed out characters and a unique plot. Multiple POVs add layers to a story that is already full of plot points and mystery. Not all of the questions raised are answered by the end of the book, leaving it feeling unfinished, especially since there is no sequel. The romance between Jak and Harper is sweet with little conflict between the characters since most of the story focuses on several mysteries we follow throughout the book. While the story is engaging and the characters likable, the ending comes across as far-fetched and implausible, while the pacing is uneven. Overall, however, Savaged is successful story reminiscent of Tarzan with a little bit of science fiction and mystery mixed in. ( )

I enjoyed it very much.
The mc's, Harper and Jak are very interesting and well depicted.
The mystery/suspense keeps you on your toes.
The crime element is horrendous and will have you hoping for vengeance & justice.
The FBI character, Mark and his wife Laurie are also well done.
You will connect easily to all 4 of them.
The adult romance sex scenes are steamy hot, romantic and intense. Some so sweet they will break your heart.

Now..... I found this to be overly wordy. There are areas that I felt were unnecessary and repetitive. I would have enjoyed it more if those had been removed and used for the crime element.
That said, I found no typos/editing errors.
I also wish the author had been more forthcoming with the age of the mc's. It is implied as to how old they are, but never confirmed. Out of all of my GR friends and myself that read this can come up with an exact age. We do all agree they are both in their early 20's and that Jak is about 1 year older than Harper. ( )

It's difficult to review this book without giving too much away and those details would spoil the unveiling of the story.

The main characters are a 'wild man who gives his name as Lucas and Harper but there is also an agent who is working the case whose story also unfolds.

There are flashback type scenes, though at first you are not sure how they fit.

It's not difficult to work out the mystery but at the same time the author keeps you guessing about how much Lucas has done and there were a few surprises.

Lucas is a recluse, having had very limited exposure to modern living and association, as a result his perspective of things most of us consider simple and ordinary is fascinating and so sweet.

He and Harper have an instant attraction but due to the circumstances both are wary.

There is no cheating.
There is a scene with another woman in his past but it doesn't go far on the Hero's part.
In the present another woman shows interest but the Hero shuts it down.

The two murders are quite gruesome but there are limited details and it is told after the event as part of the investigation.

HEA.
Epilogue.

There is some internal dialogue which is a huge pet peeve of mine but the writing was so good after the initial first few chapters I found I could over look it.
I understood why it was written that way as the character is a recluse and even Harper is a bit of a loner and the area is so isolated it sort of works.

Suspense and romance

Such a great story. A slow burn romance and a deeply embedded, suspenseful mystery, all wrapped up in one. Loved it! ( )

I was not expecting this story.

I love to find stories that make me take a moment and pause. Especially, when they come as a surprise. This book was definitely that. This isn't a book about romance, all though there is a tad bit of that, but rather it is a book about survival and hope.

Zak is proof that the mind is a powerful tool. What he endured. My heart. I can't imagine the life or even the elements that he had to survive at such a young age. And sweet Harper. Good lord. So many secrets. And Twists. Good lord the twist at the end. Mind blown.

I came in thinking that this was going to be just a typical romance but it was so much more. ( )
