I enjoyed being able to see this side of life ♥️Det här är en av LibraryThings förhandsrecensioner. I thought this was a great book. I did not know anything about borderline and my daughter in law was just diagnosed with it. Very good read and I learned alot. Det här är en av LibraryThings förhandsrecensioner. I looked up the definition of EMO. It is 'a style of rock music denoting or relating to emo subculture. Emo is short for emotional. I don't think this book is about 'emo' - other than the times the subject dresses in a kind of Hot Topic way. The subject of this books seems 'born that way' reminiscing about the thousands of times she is mean, dishonest, bullying, double crossing, lying, jealous and rude. She seems more like a sociopath, psychopath, extreme mean girl, and completely devoid in anything resembling empathy. That being said- the style of this book- written in the first person by another person is strange and suspect. The father -who is writing this book, according to him, by using the daughter's journals always comes off a being an ideal father whose children hate him for no reason.. There is an emphasis on the family's wealth and travel. I felt extremely bummed out just thinking of the ugliness of this family's experience. It was hard to keep picking this book up and entering their dark cloud. I have read many, many books on the subject, have even suffered with depression myself, but something about this book was not connecting with me. Det här är en av LibraryThings förhandsrecensioner. "Emo Reality" by Jerold Daniels is a captivating and thought-provoking exploration of the human experience, blending elements of untreated mental health and the complications of family dynamics. Jerold writes Emo Reality from the perspective of Lina, the protagonists, via the use of diary entries and emails, in order to capture his own daughters' experiences growing up with borderline personality disorder. The author skillfully weaves together themes of identity, depression, and the nature of humanity, prompting readers to contemplate the implications of a society driven by the manipulation of emotions. One of the most striking aspects of "Emo Reality" is Daniels’ ability to delve into the complexities of human emotion and its impact on society. The book raises profound questions about the nature of authenticity, connection, and the ethical considerations of manipulating emotions for personal or societal gain. The narrative is both thought-provoking and emotionally resonant, prompting readers to reflect on their own relationship with their emotions and the world around them. Through compelling storytelling and rich character development, Daniels crafts a narrative that lingers in the mind long after the final page is turned. Overall, Jerold Daniels’ masterful and nuanced exploration of human emotion make this a standout work. The book’s rich thematic depth and compelling characters, combine to create a reading experience that is both engaging and profoundly thought-provoking, leaving a lasting impression on readers. Det här är en av LibraryThings förhandsrecensioner. Very weird reading a book in the first-person from the perspective of a real person in the author’s life. A biography of the author’s daughter’s life written as though it is a memoir she wrote. It’s hard not to get caught up wondering about the veracity of ‘her’ perspective and thoughts, especially when it comes to the author writing about himself and her relationship with him from her perspective. Are these her real feelings? Has this been sanitized to benefit the author? Has he been able to keep his biases separate from his work in this very sensitive subject or does he put words in his daughter’s mouth? Regardless of the answer, which the reader can’t ever truly know, it made it difficult to fully engage with the story the book was trying to tell. Perhaps because of this or because of the simple writing style, I didn’t find myself very affected by the story or feeling like I had a more nuanced understanding of BPD after reading it. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
When Lina's idyllic childhood descends into mental chaos in her teenage years, Lina resorts to recording her thoughts in diaries, online chats and emails to make sense of her anguish. Through Lina's heart-wrenching words, the reader steps into her broken inner world to experience first-hand the obsessions, irrationality, angst and ruthlessness of teenage borderline personality disorder. Emo Reality shines a light into the dark corners of adolescent mental illness, proving this disorder is not just a phase, and demonstrating its ravages not just upon an individual, but also upon a whole family. Publisher's Weekly Booklife: "An unflinching novel-as-memoir, drawn from the experiences of the author's daughter, explores the experience of a girl with borderline personality disorder. Through fictionalized diary entries, online posts, and emails, the account is told in vivid detail as Lina contends with the thoughts consuming her. Exploring family dynamics, self-esteem issues, mood swings, and her feeling that 'the whole world was out to get me,' this memoir is insightful in explaining the workings of a mind controlled by mental illness, building to a welcome burst of hope and recovery. Lina is an angry girl whose 'false memories' cause her to nurture an irrational hatred of family and authority. Although intelligent, she sabotages her education to spite her parents. Although talented, she fluctuates between dreams of being a tattooist and an actress. In her delusions, she believes the cause of her lack of success is the father, who is often away on business. In truth, Lina and her sister, who also sinks into depression, have little guidance in their lives aside from him. Wrenching in its candidness, Lina's story is a stark exploration of mental illness, undiagnosed and unchecked. Readers will become immersed in Lina's reflections and understand what it is like for an individual and a family facing borderline personality disorder." Inga biblioteksbeskrivningar kunde hittas. |
