Ninety-Three [&] Things Seen, by Victor Hugo (20 Apr 1975) Ninety-Three is a novel laid in 1793 and telling of Lantenac's dramatic return to France to lead the revolt in Brittany The story has its memorable moments and was published in 1872. The last third of the volume consists of journal-like accounts of things from 1838 to 1875--of varying interest. His account of Napoleon's funeral in 1840 (when his body was returned from St. Helena) is extremely interesting, as are his account of the death of Louis-Phillipe's son, and of some of the trials he--Victor Hugo--participated in while in the House of Peers. Finally the book contains essays on Voltaire, Walter Scott, Byron and Mirabeau. ( ) inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
