I very much enjoyed this tale. I favor Pearson's earlier works--page-long sentences, rambling plot lines, much hilarity--but I seem to be in the minority, or maybe he no longer enjoys writing that way, because his books have gotten shorter and more terse as the years have progressed. This is by far his shortest and fastest-paced story yet. It is reminiscent of the Dave Barry/Carl Hiaasen fiction style, with short chapters and headlong action. I would question whether it was even Pearson's writing if not for a few of his signature words and turns of phrase sprinkled throughout. It shows that he has great versatility and still has a wonderful sense of humor, as well as the ability to craft a suspenseful plot. It's lots of fun and another one to add to my list of favorites!
