I'm not sure what to think about this book. The author adeptly handled two simultaneous story lines; one involving Tess who had come from her home in New York to care for her niece who was seemingly abandoned by Tess's sister and a girl from the past named Molly who had embarked on a trip west with her brother-in-law during the period of the Gold Rush to care for her nephew. The two story lines made it tough to get invested in either one. I found myself thinking that it was more historical fiction than romantic suspense as it was labeled. However, the book was very well written and hard to put down. A read worth the time, just now sure how I feel about it after completing the story. ( )

This is my first Erin Grady novel, and it certainly won't be my last. I enjoyed the sizzling romance mixed with paranormal time-travel. Reminded me somewhat of my own novel, The River, although it is very different.

I found the characters were 3-dimensional and satisfying. There were enough twists and turns to keep me on my toes, and all in all Echoes was a great read with an interesting spin.

You know those emergency contact cards you have to fill out for your kids' schools? It can be difficult, particularly when you've just moved to a new place and don't know anyone yet. Well, when Tori France moved to tiny Mountain Bend, California with her daughter Caitlin, she writes her sister Tess's name on the form. Tess, who lives in New York.

So when Tori doesn't show up to pick up Caitlin from school one day, Tess gets a phone call. She's more than a little convinced that Tori will show up at any moment, but Tess is well used to helping her beautiful, flighty sister, so she drops everything and flies cross-country.

But Tori doesn't show up. And shortly after Tess arrives, Tori's employer, Frank Weston, turns up dead in an apparent tractor accident. Tori soon finds herself caught between the Weston brothers, one a washed-up movie star, the other the school principal who called her. She's also defending her sister against accusations that she stole money from her employer, either witnessing the accident and running off without doing anything, or even causing the accident herself.

This is all disconcerting enough, but the worst is yet to come. Tess finds herself periodically pulled into another life, in another time, where she's Molly, whose sister has died, and she's traveling with her sister's baby son, husband, and his younger brother to California during the gold rush.

The parallels between the two lives, past and present, convince Tess that the echoes are trying to tell her something.

In the past, Molly finds herself falling in love with her sister's husband, and threatened by his brother. In the present, Tess finds herself falling in love with Grant Weston, the actor, but evidence mounts up that he might be behind his father's death and Tori's disappearance, and with conflicting stories between him and his brother, Tess doesn't know whether to believe him, or if he's just a good actor.

The story bounces back and forth between the past and present, giving the reader insight into the confusion and frustration Tess felt. ( )

I got it as a prize, if I remember correctly in connection with dearreader.com (possibly from their author-link), and last night/this morning I read it (okay, okay I'm stressed out and not sleeping well, I have my oncology review today, my nails are in tatters along with my nerves). It's quite a readable book. I will be looking for more books by this woman.

It does have romantic aspects but it's more a thriller than a romance. It swept me up and kept me reading for hours.

Tess goes to the rescue when her sister Teri goes missing leaving her daughter Caitlin alone. Teri's employer has died, suddenly and tragicaly and Teri is a major suspect. Then Tess starts having visions of another time, another place and love and tragedy. The interwoven stories are interesting and it all makes a lot of sense at the end. ( )
