I love this and I'm not sure if it would be better as a self-aware joke or as dead serious art criticism. Either way it's a good read.

I enjoyed the pictures of the cats and their paintings. The funny thing about this book is how serious the people are about the behavior of the cats. While some people see this as a parody, the powers that be that give Dewey Decimal numbers shelve this with other cat behavior books instead of the comedy books.

Absolutely brilliant satire. One of the funniest books you'll ever read about cats. Great images of cats painting, cat paintings, and other cat art. Truly inspired. A worthwhile way to spend time.

You won't believe your eyes! Someone came up with a truly novel idea. A fun book!

Cute, psuedo-academic analysis of why cats paint and dogs don't. Also details the different schools of feline painting.

The fact that some cats are able to make marks with paint has been explained by the experts as an instinctive form of territorial marking behavior. But is it only that, or are some cats genuinely artistically motivated? This book is a photographic record of the artistic cat at work. It also explains many aspects of ordinary everyday cat behavior in a new way. Anyone who loves cats and is interested in psychology or art will be fascinated with this book. I loved the humor of it!

The long awaited sequel to "Why Cats Paint", this book offers a survey of the various schools of cat-painting, with in-depth historical perspective, and interviews with many practitioners of this fine art. Includes many color plates with examples of the various styles and media. Despite the subtitle, there is little discussion of the ethics of painting cats, though none of the cats pictured look any more traumatised than cats who have to share their homes with a dog or a small child, or one who only gets gooshyfood once a week. Perhaps the pictures themselves speak to the ethical issues.

We await the logical conclusion of the series, "Why Cats Paint Cats".½

This book makes for a lovely piece of art- the pictures are wonderful. Some of the cats are particularly glamorous, and the photographs are gorgeous. If you like cats and enjoy books about them, pick this one up to admire.

Yeah, it is about cats painting; but it is REALLY about the art-elitists, and their desire to seem more "cultured" than thou. A dead mouse becomes an "installation piece". Surely you can see the art in that? What, you can't? You mean you just THREW IT AWAY?? Clearly you don't know "art" when you see it.

A fabulous parody. My cat's "installation pieces" (whatever they may be) wind up where they belong: in the city landfill.½

This book was a gift from my sister, and while it was cute, I didn't find it to be amazingly clever. It's photos of cats "painting." I think maybe I'm just not enough of a cat-lover to appreciate it. Or maybe it's just that my cats were never this clever, and it's a case of sour grapes. ;)½

Yes, cats will actually paint, apparently, and some of the cat artists described in this book are amusing. I'm so going to give my cats paints when I can figure out what they should be using and let them try it out.

Beautiful photographs of cats, who, seemingly, paint.

while Burton and Busch's previous book Why Cats Paint is a brilliant parody, there really isn't much to recommend this work at all.

A Theory of Feline Aesthetics. Should the marks a cat makes be treated as art, or are they simply forms of territorial behavior? This photographic record of cat creativity will intrigue catlovers and art-lovers alike, as it deciphers many heretofore unexplained aspects of cat behavior which can be found in the familiar context of art.
