You're welcome. I'm glad you liked it.

Steve
I really enjoyed your review...now reading it 4 years after you wrote it...of Lives of a Cell. The 2 chapters on health care in the US should be read by the Obama crowd...it only confirms both Dem and Republicans view of our health care now...with not a lot of promise for the immediate future in spite of the heatlh care legislation
Good luck in The Big Apple!

Sorry our timeing was off on the bookclub...we're a pretty small group starting out and we would have enjoyed your participation.

Feel free to refer any Seattle readers you know our way...more perspectives and ideas always makes for a livelier discussion.
Did you notice that we picked up your thread from April 2007 about a bookclub in the Seattleites group?

Are you interested in joining us?
Hey dude,

I'm the guy you met on the bus who was also reading "If on a winter's night a traveller".

How do you do? First dip into this LibaryThing. Looks interesting, could be more useable?

I just finished "If on a winter's night" and had my moment of zen: an infinite number of things to say (swirling combinations of superlatives mostly) and nothing to say at all. If I were given the ability to choose the very last book I'd read before I died it would probably be this one.
Welcome to Books Compared. I enjoyed your reviews, which are delightfully conversational and witty. Alas, you didn't like The Old Man and the Sea, which I keep telling people is the only thoroughly good book Hemingway wrote. (His prose could be brilliant, but he absolutely couldn't get women right, and there aren't any in TOMS.) Hope you'll contribute a comparison review for us soon!
You asked about the Mazes and Labyrinths book, truth be told I haven't read it. It sounded interesting so it joined the (far too many) unread books on my bookshelves. It's a history of mazes of all varieties, it appears that the book if still in print if you're interested in picking up a copy.

Thanks DarkWater for you advice re: Anna Karenina. I will try it again in a few years, and keep my focus on Levin as you suggest. I hate not finishing a book :)

Happy 2007!
You will be entirely in your element.

2007.

Peace.
Pierre: A Cautionary Tale in Five Chapters and a Prologue by Maurice Sendak. I do not currently own it but obviously it made a great impression on me. :)
