Kort biografi
[from back cover of Repairing Upland Path Erosion]
Peter Davies is the Eastern Area Manager with the Lake District National Park Authority. He joined the National Park in 1980 as a Ranger for the Buttermere, Loweswater, Newlands, and Emmerdale area. Prior to this he was a teacher for ten years with Cumbria Education Authority for primary schools at Dalston, Warwick Bridge, and lastly, as Deputy Head, at Scotby School.

As Eastern Area Manager, he is responsible for the Ranger Service and Estate Teams who look after over 1000 miles of footpaths and bridleways; National Park properties; common land and access issues on both fells and lakes.

Since the late 1970s he has been involved in the planning and management of footpath erosion repair schemes and has extensive experience in the use of estate teams, volunteers and self-employed contractors.

Latterly, he has been Chairman of the Lake District Access and Erosion Group comprising representatives from the Lake District National Park Authority, The National Trust and English Nature. It was Peter's idea to publish a manual which would both examine the principles of, and show best practice techniques for, upland path erosion repair work.

His hobbies include mountaineering (especially in the Scottish hills), and he has visited al the 2000 foot summits in England and Wales; mountain biking and ornithology. Peter is a qualified bird ringer; Chairman of Cumbria's Raptor Study Group, a council member of Cumbria Bird Club and is involved with numerous bird surveys throughout Cumbria.
