WOW, I WAS INTRIGUED BY THE FIRST CHAPTER! I loved that Sarah decided to take a clerk position with the night court in D.C. as she was forever hopping from one job to another and she liked clerking as it soothe her soul, of course James was easy on the eyes too, but on her first day a deranged man attacked her and almost ripped out her throat! James suspected that Sarah was an unknown creature as she could not be enfolded with a vampire as old as he was and he quietly tested her, as her boss, he started training her to fight as she constantly walked alone in the dead of night. I loved that James fought his desire for her, especially when he made the mistake of allowing a reporter close to her. I CAN'T WAIT TO READ BOOK TWO TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!! (

Synopsis: Sarah has found the job of her dreams. She’s a night court clerk. What she doesn’t realize is that after a certain point, everyone in the court is a paranormal. This is brought home to her when a vampire tries to kill her and another one saves her. As time goes on, she discovers that she, too, is a paranormal, a sphinx. As a sphinx she is to protect not only the law, but vampires. Her ability to organize materials helps her track down one of the most dangerous vampires in history. However, it may be the last things she does.

A fun read; a lighter paranormal adventure with more romantic-interest than romance or sex. Atmosphere does put me in mind of the Night Court sitcom. I enjoyed it. Towards end some more interesting world-building hinting at potential sequels. Not particularly the most original world building and rather mixing the folklore/myths/legends but few paranormal books/series do nowadays. (The worst "violence," a single attack that court officers fight off, is in opening chapter; this isn't for the diehard thriller/mystery/blood-and-gore fans or readers looking for explicit/out-there sex scenes). (
