Longer than I anticipated considering the audience it was meant for, but wonderful nonetheless. The book juxtaposes the perspective of a child to that of an adult by taking the Little Prince to different planets to meet different people, but finding that they all seem quite backward in their adult logic. It is also a little bit of a coming of age story, in that as the Prince travels the universe, he gradually grows to realize what he's thrown away by leaving his flower on his planet. The Prince comes to understand loss and grief as he makes friends on earth and has to leave them. He also develops a maturity as he get closer to facing his own death, and teaches his pilot friend that death is not really a permanent thing in your heart. A lovely book that has many valuable lessons for the young, and young at heart. I was amazed at how this beloved book is so full of bullshit. There are no deep thoughts at all, everything just sounds nice at first glance. I started straight up hating it when it set up a false dichotomy beetween the importance of numbers and other qualities that cannot be expressed in numbers. Mathemathics is not just useful, it can be beautiful too. Too many people, especially children already dislike math, it needs no further negative light on it.
Egziperi neguje kult razumevanja i duboke moralnosti, razvijajući vanvremensku veru u moć preobražavanja čoveka i dosezanja do pravog saznavanja njegove prirode. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, most metaphysical of aviators, has written a fairy tale for grownups. The symbolism is delicate and tenuous. It challenges man the adult, and deplores the loss of the child in man. "The Little Prince" is a parable for grown people in the guise of a simple story for children-a fable with delightful delicate pictures of the little Prince on his adventurings. It is a lovely story in itself hich covers a poetic, yearning philosophy- not the sort of fable that can be tacked down neatly at its four corners but rather reflections on what are real matters of consequence.
