Reading this novel while some current events were going on added a level of intensity to the novel. I think that this is also the second in a sorta series about Oz and Finn, two of the main characters in this book. And while I definitely enjoyed the book even though I hadn't read the first book, and I don't think that there was anything big that wasn't explained in this book as well so that it worked as a stand alone. There were some smaller things here and there which, by the end of the book I realized that might have been contained in a previous book. This was the story of four women, Bailey, a PI working out of Boston and Cambridge who gets hired by Cassie, a woman who's looking for her daughter. Then there's Finn, a brilliant biochemist sort of person who is embarking on a mission with the US Government to hopefully save the world. She's accompanied in her journey by Oz, her girlfriend, and Oz's family as well. The other two important main character were Masood, a terrorist. And then there was Jazz. She turned into Bailey's dog, and she was my very favorite character in the entire novel. All the little details that Bramhall put in there made Jazz almost jump off the page. Another thing I liked about the novels were its characters. Most of the characters were so awesomely unique-- that is except for Oz's male family members. They all seemed to blend together into one tall, muscled dude in my head. That is, except AJ. For whatever reason he stood out just a bit more than his brothers, uncle, father, and cousins. As for my problems with the book I really only had two. 1, some of the time of the characters' pasts in the story was confusing to me, but maybe if I had read the first book in the series first that would have helped? And 2, while most of the Boston stuff was okay, this book had the same problem that so many do. Cambridge and Boston are two distinctly different cities, (Oh so very different) on different sides of the Charles River, and MIT (not to mention Vassar Street) is in Cambridge, NOT Boston. But, that's just a little nitpick-y thing because it's one of my biggest pet peeves about books set in Massachusetts. Overall it was a good book. The 1st third of the book was hard to get into, the 2nd third of the book crawled a little pace wise but was interesting, and then in the 3rd third of the novel the story seemed to hit its stride and turned into quite the thriller. I got this advanced galley through Netgalley on behalf of Bold Strokes Books. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension

When she learns that she no longer has to run, she is determined to find Daniela again and hires private investigator Bailey Davenport, a retired FBI agent, who is more than up to the task. Bailey finds nothing more irresistible than a mystery and a challenge, and in Cassie, she finds both. Can Bailey find the key to unlock more than just Cassie's secrets? Swordfish is listed in lesbian genre. It should not be limited to that. Anyone who loves thrillers and action packed novels will love this book. Do not let the word lesbian get in your way of an absolutely amazing novel. Yes, there is a minor part containing same sex love making. It is a beautiful part of the book.
