The author, Vineet Bajpai, had mentioned somewhere that the Harappa series is a trilogy and Kashi is its concluding part. But, after reading it, I feel that the author has planned to continue the series further, or create another with strong links to this one. Kashi takes the story from the previous book, Pralay, forward and brings it to a more or less satisfactory conclusion. The secret of the black temple is well concealed and I could not guess it at all. The climax is somewhat underwhelming after all the build-up about the clash between the god and the devil. The writing is exactly the same as the earlier books and is quite alright, apart from a few long-drawn sequences and the annoying effort to end each paragraph on a thrilling note. Overall, it is an above average series which would interest people who like ancient secrets and myths. ( )

There is the build-up to the SECRET from last two books. The reveal is certainly worthy one. It is well done and makes sense in the world of this trilogy. But the journey is a slog. Good protaganist but weak villain. ending is not a bang but a whimper. Feels like still more to come. I picked up this series believing it as a trilogy. Guess not. I don't think I will read further books in this series.

Exposition delivery is monotonous and fills up most of the book.

There are genuinely some impressive ideas about indian mythology, political environment etc that I never read before, which are probably the saving grace of these books. But, at the end nothing mattered. Felt like set up for another bigger series. There is no cliffhanger like last two since smaller arcs gets resolved to satisfactory level, but bigger arc will be the fodder for next series. This whole triology is a wasted opportunity. Could've been worse but could've been so much better nonetheless. ( )
