I found it unnecessary unless you aren't going to read the book. The author should explain why the CDC made this recommendation. Keep in mind that a book on the SARS-CoV-2 virus, written in the middle of that pandemic, is bound to leave a few loose ends. That's the purpose of research on these coronaviruses -- to keep expanding the boundaries of what we know. My hunch is that the COVID-19 pandemic will end someday, years from now.
