Wow! Gaiman's quickly becoming one of my favourite authors. The novel sometimes has that Harry Potter vibe. Dead parents, a child almost killed becomes an orphan, witch, ghosts, werewolf, vampire... ( )

This was the first book that made me cry. I truly loved the story, characters, and bittersweet ending. Despite, the ending left such an impact on me, the story was enticing enough for me to continue. I can truly see why this book won an award. I was hooked the moment I read the first page and wanted to keep going in understanding on what's going on and what's gonna happen next. It truly came together and recommend this to anyone to give it a try! A true 5 stars for me! ( )

I don't think I was more than halfway through this book before I had two thoughts. The first was well no wonder it won an award. The second was Neil Gaiman, where have you been all my life?. This wonderful, episodic fantasy about Nobody Owens, the boy raised by dead people, transcends its label as a children's book. It is a well constructed story which can be read all at one go, or a chapter at a time, as though it were a short story collection. Gaiman's precise language has something melodic about it that propels the reader through a story blended of action, mysticism and creepiness (in all the right places). And, in case you haven't looked at my currently-reading list, it has plunged me into a huge literary crush. ( )

This is fine work, from beginning to end, and the best bedtime story read-aloud material I've encountered in a long time. Can't wait until my daughter's old enough to read this to.

When the chilling moments do come, they are as genuinely frightening as only Gaiman can make them, and redeem any shortcomings.

While “The Graveyard Book” will entertain people of all ages, it’s especially a tale for children. Gaiman’s remarkable cemetery is a place that children more than anyone would want to visit. They would certainly want to look for Silas in his chapel, maybe climb down (if they were as brave as Bod) to the oldest burial chamber, or (if they were as reckless) search for the ghoul gate. Children will appreciate Bod’s occasional mistakes and bad manners, and relish his good acts and eventual great ones. The story’s language and humor are sophisticated, but Gaiman respects his readers and trusts them to understand.
